Changing my reality...

Happy New Year to all. Today I'm sitting here, the day before I go back to work and I'm considering all of the things I didn't get done over my holiday break. Yes I'm a little remorseful, but I'm also okay with it.

Okay, being okay with what I didn't get done is taking some work, but I'll get there. What I did do is read a lot, sleep a lot, spend time with family and generally relax. So I got a lot done in terms of mind and body rejuvenation and maybe that was more important than building my 'dream' business and restructuring my website.

Tomorrow is back to reality, back on the treadmill both physically and figuratively. I'm filled with anticipation for the coming year - did I tell you I read some good stuff over the break - invigorating and inspiring stuff.

I have plans, I have goals and I have the intent to make them all come true. Three subjects left to go on my MBA and then an ongoing plan to learn more about
neuro linguistic programming (NLP).

My nerdy moment but simply put this is an approach to communication, personal development and psychotherapy. According to it's creators it's a connection between the neurological processes ("neuro"), language ("linguistic") and behavioral patterns learned through experience ("programming") and that these can be changed to achieve specific goals in life.

I know, it sounds very complex, but this newly discovered (for me) concept is a wrap up of everything which I find fascinating and which inadvertently I've been exploring all of my life without knowing there was a name or a process for it.

It's a big year all round, with the first stage of our IT development project at work due to go live in May - which translates to a whole lot of work for me in the next few months.

My baby also starts his final year of school in a few weeks, so it's a huge year for him too and the irony is not lost on me that if our project falters in anyway then my son's applications for university in 2016 will be directly affected. Funny how things come about sometimes.

I've spent a lot of time watching the news over the last 48 hours (not something I normally do) but watching in dismay as huge bush fires burn through the Adelaide Hills, this is to the north east of the city and a reasonable distance from us but is still infringing on the outer suburbs of the city and is quite tragic.

Twelve homes have been lost, potentially twenty more to be confirmed and already 11500 hectares have burnt. Animal and stock losses have been considerable, and yet if anything good could come from this it's that no human lives have been lost.

Natural disasters are quite horrible events, and none more so than bush fires, yet they also bring out an amazing side to people. It's heartening to read and hear of the community spirit and how people are helping each other, it restores my faith in human nature amongst what has been a quite horrendous news week in our beautiful city.

On a side note about news coverage - ABC news, you now have my unequivocal support for reporting the news as it needs to be heard and known. Our commercial channels should be ashamed and I see them now for what they are, pure entertainment rot with no real news value at all.

Disasters like this make me sit back and take stock of what I do have and makes me extremely thankful for the safety of our family and friends, our pets and our home.

I now have a few hours ahead of me to get some planning and structure into my year ahead. I hope 2015 sees all your dreams come true and I hope it continues to keep Adelaideans safe from harm as our amazing country fire service fight to gain control of these bush fires.

Cheers, Fi
